I recently enjoyed a visit to the office of Dr Peter Andras, a complex networks scientist based at the University of Newcastle in the UK.

Dr Andras has a fascinating personal history and has contributed towards many influential papers in the burgeoning discipline of complex systems analysis. One of his papers includes a potentially controversial study of online gaming communities. (more…)

Self organisation – how networks bring order out of chaos

My last ‘Network Analytics’ post discussed the power of complexity and tried to prove that stuff like brains and social media are not that different when seen from the perspective of complex network science.

Dollywagon HQ goes for icicle record

This morning Dollywagon HQ recorded overnight temperatures of -14 degrees centigrade, a thermometer reading that hasn’t been witnessed around these parts for at least 30 years.

‘Rory the Tory’ marches past Dollywagon HQ

Dollywagon is based in one of the remotest parts of England where the people are resourceful, independent and generally conservative. Moving here from London was a real culture shock, but we’ve never looked back and have learnt a lot from the process of fitting in.
